A Night with the Stars...

Conductor - Detroit Symphony Orchestra Director of Music LEONARD SLATKIN will give an hour-long music workshop for the Troy High School Symphonic Band. The band earned the unique opportunity to play under Slatkin’s baton through the “One for the Community” campaign and Entertainment publications. It was one of the top three Entertainment Book sellers during the past school year. Maestro Slatkin will conduct the band during an open rehearsal. The band will perform a transcription of Franz Lizst’s orchestral masterpiece, Les Preludes.

Composer - Renowed award-winning composer and Kansas University professor, JAMES BARNES will conduct the world premier of Symphonic Essay, op. 133, a piece commissioned two years ago by Troy High School Bands. Mr. Brarnes will be on hand to conduct its debut.

and Community - All Troy School District instrumental music students in Grades 5-12, as well as members of the community, are invited to attend this free event, which will be followed by a cookies-and-punch reception in the cafeteria. In the opening portion of the evening, the Troy High Symphonic Band will receive an hour-long open rehearsal with world-famous Detroit Symphony Orchestra Maestro Leonard Slatkin. Following that, the Symphonic Band will perform, culminating in the premier of the piece commissioned by the Troy Bands and composed by renowned Composer James Barnes. Those music students who have turned in their “golden ticket” will not only receive a door prize and be entered into a raffle for one of several music-related prizes, but will also have the chance to have their name drawn to conduct the Symphonic Band in the finale, a rousing march to send us on our way.
